FFF: Golden Electric Blue EOTD

$

So I managed to get some free time to do a quick EOTD!

I felt inspired by the blue in the previous guest post from Annie (check the post here) but teamed it with a neutral golden eyeshadow instead, with just a pop of blue on the lower lash line with electric blue on the waterline.. Hope you enjoy and feel inspired <3

Products used:
> UDPP - Eden
> Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette - Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Champagne Truffle

> Illamasqua Neutral Quad palette - all colours used
> Motives Mineral Gel eyeliner - Little Black Dress
> Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencils - Perversion, Electric, Ransom & Deviant

> Daniel Sandler Jumbo Jet mascara
> LA Girl Pro Conceal concealer - Creamy Beige
> Eldora False Eyelashes - H151

After priming the eyes, I buffed Salted Caramel and Milk Chocolate from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette into my crease, blending upwards. I intensified the crease using Wolf and Obsidian from the Illamasqua Neutral palette, followed by patting on Vintage to the middle of the eyelid and Creme Brulee from the Chocolate Bar palette further inwards. I highlighted the inner corner of the eye with Champagne Truffle and the brow bone with White Chocolate and Stealth from the Neutral palette.

I decided to not go with my usual eyeliner extended flick style, and kept the wing short using Motives Gel Eyeliner in LBD.
I then lined the inner top waterline with Perversion eye pencil and the bottom with Electric. I then used a mixture of Ransom & Deviant on the lower lashline, blending slightly down.

To finish the look I concealed around the eye area with LA Girl Pro Conceal in Creamy Beige and applied Eldora False Eyelashes in H151, using the Daniel Sandler Jumbo Jet Mascara to blend the lashes and slightly coat the bottom lashes.

I hope you enjoyed this look, hopefully next time I get to do a full FOTD!

FFF: Teal Eid Makeup Look

Hi guys!

So sorry about the lack of posts, I've been uber busy with baby and the month of Ramadan but now that it is over, I thought I would get back on track with my backlog of posts and start with the Eid makeup look I wore last week to compliment my teal kaftan (from StyleMeLondon) as posted on my Instagram:
I didn't get to get a close up of the eyes as usual but I got pretty clear face pictures so you can see that I went for a soft glam with a hint of colour on my lower lashline to tie in with the kaftan as I felt teal on the lids would be too much!

I also got to use my newest makeup products from the Illamasqua Dusk collection (review to follow!)

Here's a breakdown of products used:
Eyes:
UDPP
Illamasqua Brow Gel - Strike & ABH DipBrow Pomade in Chocolate
Smashbox Full Exposure palette: shimmery golds on lids and matte nudes and black to blend in crease and above
Illamasqua Precision Gel Liner in Infinity
UD 24/7 Pencils in Covet and Flipside
Huda Beauty Lashes: Giselle
Face:
Maybelline Fit Mefoundations in shade 210 and 220
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger (slightly darker for me so added HOGD (next) on top
House Of GlamDolls GlamBase Wheel for contouring and concealing under foundation
Illamasqua Sculpting Palette
Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Cherish
Lips:
Illamasqua Slick Stick for Lips in True
 Illamasqua lipstick in Born
Lansinoh (for moisturising lips on top)

The first two pictures are without any balm but I felt the lip slick and matte lippy combo was a tad drying for me, so I added a bit of Lansinoh which is visible in the third pic.
I don't use my Smashbox palette very much as I was slightly disappointed with the pigmentation of the shimmery shades however I reached for it for this look and it seemed to work fine!

Hope you liked this look, would love to see some of my readers Eid looks too, feel free to tweet me or write on my facebook wall sharing your pictures and hope those of you who celebrated had a wonderful one!

Sunday Swatches: Illamasqua Dusk Collection

$

Following my last post featuring my Eid Makeup Look which used the new Illamasqua collection, it's only right I follow up with a review and swatches post to show you just how awesome this collection is!
Dusk Collection (minus the Illustrator Pen)
Dusk is inspired by the middle east and the art of skin sculpting and contouring; I love how the shades in this collection compliment medium/warmer skintones perfectly, (but can equally be worn by fairer and deeper tones too).

My first impressions were of course surprise and adoration; firstly at the wearability of this collection for my own skintone and secondly the new products I'd never seen before by Illamasqua - the Slick Sticks and the Sculpting Palette. I'm used to their colouring pencils and the quad palettes so this was new territory for me and I couldn't wait to dig in.

Sculpting Palette
top: with flash; bottom: natural daylight
I had to review the star of the show first - the Sculpting Palette.
It boasts 6 super pigmented powder contour and highlight shades (5 matte, 1 shimmer).. a very light handed single swipe is all that's needed to get full in depth colour.
I was a bit dubious about the one shimmer highlight shade as it looked quite dark in the pan, but it translates into a much lighter champagne gold which I absolutely adore on my skin and have received compliments on wearing it!
top: swatches with flash; bottom: swatches without flash
Colour/Shades:The palette contains a few anomaly shades you don't really see in most of the usual contour kits going around these days; the ominous grey looks daunting at first but I tend to use it either to build depth to my cheekbones with the other browny contour shades, or ever so lightly around my nose to give more shadow to the parts I want to push in. I do however like the rest of the shades and was pleasantly surprised how the shimmer highlight translated on my skin much more beautifully than expected.
Pigmentation: Even though the packaging is different, the quality of product remains the same high pigmentation that Illamasqua deliver, if not better than the usual Quadsand with a smoother finish.
Price:At £44, it's £5 more than the famous ABH Powder Contour Kit; however I have to say the pigmentation on this is so worth the money as a little goes a looooong way; I apply my makeup very lightly generally and this Sculpting Palette I go even lighter handed with, which means this will last me forever!

FrootiFactor:I can't fault this palette at all, it ticks all the contouring boxes and more; it's worth the splurge for me as a makeup artist as I know it will be better value for money in my kit, therefore it gets a full 5:

Limited Edition Powder Blusher & Lipstick
Powder Blusher in "Cherish"
Lipstick in "Born"
The next product I was excited about was this gorgeous peachy-apricot Powder Blusher in "Cherish" and then the nude-rose Lipstick in "Born" (both limited edition).
Colour/Shades:On first swatch I thought the Cherish blush was too pastel-y for my skintone (visible at the top of the blusher swatch); it seemed like it would be something for fairer skintones, but on blending it further, it turned into a beautiful peachy apricot shade (bottom of the swatch) which warmed up my skintone, giving a flush of colour. I love the golden flecks in the blush too; they don't translate onto the skin garishly at all.
The Born lipstick looked as though it would be too light for me on first impressions in the bullet, however it translates a nicer warmer colour on my arm; it was however slightly colder on my dark pigmented lips as in the previous blog post.
Pigmentation: As always, both the blush and the lipstick are intensely pigmented.

Texture: The blush has a slightly drier/powdery texture which I imagine is because of the Rice Starch ingredient, however it does serve well to apply smoothly.
The lipstick, although matte in finish, it does not feel too drying on the lips alone; I wore the lipstick with the slick stick underneath for my previous look and felt it was too drying with the combination.
Price: Though these products are limited edition, they remain the same price as a normal blusher (£22) and lipstick (£19.50).

FrootiFactor: I love this "Cherish" powder blusher now that I've figured out how to use it and the "Born" lipstick is dubbed a universal nude so in theory everyone should get it!
I give both products 4.5 as they translate differently on the skin but still look beautiful:

Slick Sticks - Eyes and Lips
Slick Sticks for Eyes
Slick Sticks for Lips
As aforementioned, the Slick Sticks are a new product from Illamasqua; usually their eye and lip liners come in a typical "Colouring Pencil" form, but these retractable crayon style liners are cute and dinky and actually do not budge once set; perfect for humid or wet climates!
Colour/Shades:I absolutely love the wearability of these lip and eye shades; if there wasn't a black eye shade or a red or nude lip shade I would be disappointed but Illamasqua have done good bringing out these basic shades to start with and I hope they bring more!
Pigmentation: The slick sticks have great colour payoff; I found the lip Slick Sticks were more pigmented than the eye sticks.

Texture: These crayons go on very well once warmed up, however there is a slight tug as they are waxy in consistency due to their waterproof-ness and so can be quite drying.
Price: At £18.50 each, they're a fair bit pricier than the usual pencils in their waterproof category, however they are very long lasting and would not wipe off with a wet wipe at all, so in terms of something that won't budge without oil, this is that product!

FrootiFactor: I'd give these pencils a 3.5 to start with as the shade range is pretty good and the longevity is amazing but the texture is quite drying when combined with a matte lipstick and also I'm worried about the products breaking when retracting, so I'm not sure on the packaging just yet!

Lastly, the lashes in this collection are pretty dramatic so I'm not sure how they would fare on my smaller eye shape, but I do love that they have a hint of brown to them, giving them a softer, endearing finish.

All in all, as much as I love how quirky Illamasqua are, I have to say I'm quite loving these easier-to-wear products that are in line with the current makeup trends; as long as they keep bringing out their quirky products to play around with every now and then, I don't see any harm in catering to the demands of consumers, especially when Illamasqua do it ever so beautifully (and better) with higher quality pigmentation!

The collection is out now in selected Illamasqua stores and online.

What are your thoughts on this collection?
Which products have caught your eye and which will you be purchasing?

FFF: Countessa Recreation

Hello my lovelies!

First of all, I'd like to apologise for the lack of posts; this has to be the longest I've gone without blogging, the last time I posted was in August and now it's almost November.. terrible.
It's been a hectic time and I've been wanting to blog but by the end of the day I'm so shattered I just want to switch off and watch a film or even better, sleep!
I've tried to do mini posts on Instagram so do follow me there too for more frequent updates.

In the time I haven't blogged, I've been lucky enough to try out the new Illamasqua releases which I will be posting about in a separate post.
This particular blog post is a makeup look post where I tried to recreate the Illamasqua "Countessa" look.. I did it while the little one was having a nap so only got to do half my face but I've merged it with the original face chart for comparison below.. Let me know your thoughts!

Products used:
• UDPP - Eden
Illamasqua Brow Gelin Strike
• Illamasqua Semblance palette
• Urban Decay Naked Basics palette

• Illamasqua Daemon eyeshadow
• NYX Two Timer eyeliner
• Eldora lashes: H151
• Daniel Sandler Jumbo Jet Mascara
• Illamasqua Skinbase foundation in SB10
• Skinbase Lift in Medium 1
• Skinbase Mixer in White
• Illamasqua sculpting duo: Nefertiti

• MAC Lipliner - Nightmoth
• Illamasqua lipsticks- Pristine & Maneater

And my face with the face chart for comparison (I used the brighten tool to make my skin even paler):

Eyes

1) Prime the eyelids with UDPP Eden and fill in brows with Illamasqua Brow Gel in Strike (I used it quite heavily to achieve darker brows).
2) With a blending brush I added Daemon eyeshadow to just above the crease blending upwards and downwards.
3) I then added Dizzy (a pale pink from the new Semblance palette) above the inner corner of the eye and W.O.S on the eyelid from the Naked Basics palette as well as Venus for highlighting the inner corner and browbone and Naked2 to blend out the red eyeshadow.
4) I added a little depth to the crease using Obsidian matte black eyeshadow (Semblance palette) and used it a tiny bit heavier on the bottom outer corner and lashline. I added Daemon to the middle bottom lashline and blended softly.
5) For the eyeliner I used the NYX Two Timer eyeliner- the felt side for the top liner detail and the kohl side to tightline the inner eye. I added a tiny beauty spot under the eye after concealing with this same eyeliner.
6) I coated the lashes with Daniel Sandler Jumbo Jet mascara followed by Eldora False Lashes in H151 (absolute fave).

Face & Lips

1)I concealed under the eyes using the Illamasqua Skinbase Lift in Medium 1 and used Illamasqua Skinbase foundation in SB10 all over the face, mixing it with the White Skinbase Mixer for a paler look.
2) I then lightly contoured the face using the Illamasqua Sculpting Duo, but only lightly using Nefertiti in the hollows of the cheeks.
3) For the lips I used MAC Nightmoth lipliner followed by Illamasqua Pristine lipstick directly on the top lip. Maneater lipstick was used directly on the middle of the bottom lip, followed by Pristine, but using a lip brush to line the lips neatly. I feathered out the Pristine lipstick using another brush to create an ombre effect into Maneater lipstick.

And there you have it; it was a bit of a rushed job but I'm just happy I got to get round to recreating the look!

Illamasqua are holding a Halloween Special Beauty school drop in this Sunday 26th October if you'd like to learn some makeup techniques, check out the times and locations here.

Would you wear this look? Let me know if you have any specific blog post requests and I'll see what I can do <3

Sunday Swatches: Illamasqua 2014 Releases - Summary Post

[picture and text heavy post!]
Following my last post, I thought I'd run through some of the recent Illamasqua releases that I've had the chance to play around with and use in the time I haven't blogged.

As you may well know, Illamasqua is a brand close to my heart; I love that they push boundaries and cater for all skintones.
Lately, Illamasqua have been releasing more neutral and toned down products compared to their previous collections with more daring colours (as in the Paranormal and Human Fundamentalism collections).
I like that they are producing more everyday-friendly products however the artistic streak in me hopes they pull a wild card soon and make something eye catching again.

This post will feature a round up of my favourites from the recent releases, hope you enjoy!

Nude Glamore Lipsticks
Since the release of the Glamore Satin Finish Lipsticks in February this year (blog post here), I have to say I was really impressed with the formula and longevity and was looking forward to the release of any new shades.
July 2014 brought the release of 7Nude Glamore Lipsticks in the same formulation as the original Glamore with a range of shades for all skintones, including rose, earthy rose and nude corals
I picked the nude coral in "Cherub" (above) as I tend to wear MAC Crosswires almost every other day, which is definitely my go-to lip colour. Below I swatched Cherub and Crosswires together to see the difference and you can see Cherub is a slightly less-pink coral.

International Season Collection

August saw the release of the International Season Collection, exclusively in Selfridges.
It consisted of the above items; a new Sculpting Duo shade ("Illuminate & Nefertiti) and a new Gleam/highlighter ("Mirage"), a Brow Gel ("Strike") and a nude-pink lipstick in "Bare".
I have to say I loved every single item in this collection.

If you remember my blog post from the Holiday 2013 Collection, you would remember me gushing about my love for contouring products and how I wished Illamasqua would release more shades. Well they did and this particular Sculpting Duo's contouring shade (Nefertiti) suits my skintone gorgeously, so much so that I use it every day for a subtle contour rather than a darker, heavier one. I do prefer a lighter highlighting colour so I tend to use the "Lumos" highlighter from the previous Sculpting Duo as "Illuminate" was quite golden and warmer than I am used to (see swatches below).
Illamasqua need to now make an even darker Sculpting Duo shade and my contour collection will be set; chiselled perfect face here I come!

My next favourite product had to be the Precision Brow Gel; up until now I've been using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Ebony and I wanted to use a lighter colour so I thought this Brow Gel in "Strike" would work perfectly for a less darker brow.
Weirdly, the shade looked darker than I anticipated and in fact can be used really lightly for lighter coloured brows or heavier for darker brows; amazing!

The lipstick in Bare added to this collection was also a pretty nude-y shade that I love; I do have to wear it with a lip liner as my lips are dark but I must say I love this rosey nude shade for my NC30/35 skintone.

Finally, the Gleam highlighter is a gorgeous addition to the collection, however I found it too dark for my skintone to use as a highlighter and instead found it useful as a bronzer or used on the décolletage for a subtle glow.

Autumn/Fall - Once Collection
The Once collection released at the end of August really captured the tone of Autumn/Fall with the antique-y hues and gold shimmer running through the products.
I have to say the packaging on the new Vintage Metallix Cream Eyeshadows stole the show for me; rose gold just exudes elegance and luxury.
The formulation of the Vintage Metallix Cream Eyeshadows blends smoothly when applied but once the product sets it won't budge which is always a plus for me. I loved this moss green shade "Bibelot" but now have my eye on the brown shade "Embellish".
The sheer lipgloss in "Exquisite" would look good on top of a colour lipstick for me as alone it would be too light. The teal/gold nail varnish in "Melange" is such a pretty two toned colour, perfect for Autumn days.

Holiday 2014 - Facets Collection
And last but certainly not least, the Facets Collection released for Christmas 2014 features 2 multitasking (or multi faceted) palettes in "Semblance" and "Aura", 2 lipsticks (Salacious and Starkers), a brush set and a makeup bag and an eye trio gift set.
I was surprised to see the packaging wasn't in the iconic Illamasqua shape, but in an ordinary square shape but aside from that, I have to say I love multitasking palettes like this; they make condensing a makeup bag or even my makeup kit so much more easier, meaning less space taken up by unnecessary packaging; perfect for holidays too.
"Semblance" palette swatches
I do already own a few of the shades in this "Semblance" palette; I actually own the blush "Hussy" twice already (one single blush, one part of the Hussy/Lover duo palette) and now this one; the Gleam in "Mirage" is also mentioned in the above International Season collection and I own the black eyeshadow "Obsidian" because I needed the Illamasqua Neutral palette in my life of course!
I would have loved to see limited edition/new shades in an exclusive palette, however seeing as I already have a few of these shades in the palette, it just means I don't have to carry half as much makeup and can just pop this palette in my makeup bag.

If I'm correct, I'd say the Aura palette is aimed at fairer skintones and the Semblance palette aimed at slightly deeper tones, but this judgement is based on the Gleam Creams - the Aura palette has the Gleam Cream in a lighter shade "Aurora".

I'm now looking at the rest of the Facets collection and definitely have the "Embellish Eye Trio" gift set on my wishlist; it has the Precision Brow Gel and Gel Eye liner as well as the Embellish Vintage Metallix in it, and all in a limited edition rose gold packaging... love!

All Illamasqua products (aside from the Selfridges exclusive products) are available to buy in store or online at Illamasqua or Debenhams.

Which of these collections caught your eye this year? Did you buy any products from any of the collections?

Sunday Swatches: Makeup Revolution Essential Mattes

$

Hello my dears, hope you've all been well.

This instalment of Sunday Swatches features an affordable "drugstore" brand which is fairly new - Makeup Revolution.
I posted a pic of my mini haul on Instagram (below), taking advantage of the Superdrug 3 for 2 promotion of course! (I bought two of the new Undress Your Skin highlighters).

I have to say Superdrug are churning out affordable brands that actually have great quality products and I'm impressed even though I'm a bit of a makeup snob at times.

I checked out a Makeup Revolution stand by swatching away in true beauty blogger style and was pretty impressed at the softness of the texture, but more importantly the colour payoff.
I was drawn to the "Essential Mattes" palette for 2 reasons
1) The palette boasts a range of neutral colours
2) They were all matte!

For those of you who know me, follow my makeup posts or have attended my masterclass, you will know how much I'm a fan of neutral matte colours as they play a huge part in blending eyeshadow.

So when I saw that not only were they pigmented and soft, but there were 12 shadows and for ONLY £4, it was a no brainer.

Colour & Pigmentation:The neutral shades should pretty much suit every skintone. Pigmentation was more prominent in the darker matte shades but the lighter ones were satisfactory too in colour pay off.
Texture: Silky and soft
Packaging: No fuss, standard packaging, possibly breakable if it fell from a height. I like that it has a window at the front so you can see the palette shades at a glance (handy in case I buy more palettes)!
Longevity:I found the shadows to be of average lasting power, however I always wear UDPP under eyeshadows so can't comment without!
Price: At £4 for 12 shades it works out to about 33p per eyeshadow.. insane!

FrootiFactor:This is my first encounter with the brand and I'm impressed!
I'd give this product a 4.5 out of 5, because I'm sure the packaging wont last in a kit or under pressure, but for £4 I really wouldn't be breaking the bank to buy another!

The Essential Mattes palette can be bought from the Makeup Revolution website or from Superdrug, who are still holding the 3 for 2 promotion

Have you tried anything from Makeup Revolution? What would you recommend?

I'm treating my followers to yet another week of blogging (making up for lost time clearly!)
I got to play around with the Facets Semblance Palette again this week (review here), and managed to get a quick makeup look done. I also used a few shades from my new Makeup Revolution Essential Mattes paletteas it's great for blending <3

Products used:
Eyes:
• UDPP - Eden

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade - Ebony
• Illamasqua Semblance palette
• Makeup Revolution Essential Mattes palette

• NYX Two Timer eyeliner

• Illamasqua Vow Colouring Eye pencil
• Eldora lashes: H151
• Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara
Face:
• Illamasqua Skinbase foundation in SB10
• Skinbase Lift in Medium 1
• Illamasqua sculpting duo: Nefertiti

Makeup RevolutionFace Contour Kit
Lips:
• Urban Decay Naked lip liner

Illamasqua lipsticks- Bare

Eyes:
1) Prime the eyelids with UDPP Eden and fill in brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Ebony.
2) With a blending brush I added a matte brown eyeshadow from the MUR Essential Mattes palette to just above the crease blending upwards and downwards. I also added a beigey flesh toned colour above this and a lighter matte colour on the brow bone with a bit of Slink (Semblance).
3) I then patted on Obsidian (matte black - Semblance palette) to the whole eyelid except for a small part on the middle of the eyelid.
4) I added Slink and a tiny bit of Tango to the middle of the eyelid, blending back and forth.

5) I lined the bottom waterline with Vow Colouring Eye Pencil and shaded the outer bottom lashline with Obsidian and a bit of Slink.
6) For the eyeliner I used the NYX Two Timer eyeliner- the felt side for the top liner detail and the kohl side to tightline the inner top eye.
7) I coated the lashes with Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara, followed by Eldora False Lashes in H151 (need to restock soon!).

Face & Lips

1)I concealed under the eyes using the Illamasqua Skinbase Lift in Medium 1 and used Illamasqua Skinbase foundation in SB10 all over the face.
2) I then lightly contoured the face using the Illamasqua Sculpting Duo, but only using Nefertiti in the hollows of the cheeks.I then used MUR Face Contour Kit (part of a Christmas Gift Set); using the matte contour shade to blend in with Nefertiti and then the blush and highlight above the cheeks.
3) I lined the lips using Urban Decay Naked lip liner, followed by Illamasqua Bare lipstick.

And voila!
Here's a collage of the eyes and half my face:

This look is very similar in technique to the Motives Brown-Copper makeup look that I taught in my last masterclass, and also the Purple-Pink glittery look here.

Do you like this look? Let me know what you'd like to see next!

Sunday Swatches: Too Faced Born This Way Foundation and Love Flush

Hello my loves, hope you're all well!

Today I'm going to be reviewing the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in shade Sand and the Love Flush blush in I Will Always Love You.
As you may well know from my last post on the Too Faced Bronzer Wardrobe, I have always loved Too Faced for their super sweet girly packaging.

Born This Way Foundation

Foundations have come a long way and are no longer simply products to cover imperfections; most foundations now have key ingredients to help the skin along whilst wearing the product and this foundation stood out to me for the Coconut Water (my skin is in need of hydration!) and also the Hyaluronic Acid for younger skin.
swatch without flash
swatch with flash
Packaging: There's no denying the packaging for this foundation is super cute but also luxe looking; I love the thick glass bottle but see it as a problem for carrying this in my kit or for telling the true colour through the frosted glass. I also love that the bottle has a pump; always a plus for hygiene!
Shade:On first swatch, I found the shade "Sand" to be slightly pinkier than I would have preferred (you can sort of see it more with the no flash swatch above); however in flash I found the shade to be a better match and the pink tones didn't show up.
Coverage:This foundation has medium to full coverage, however compared to other medium to full coverage foundations (like the Urban Decay Naked Skin here) it is definitely fuller coverage.
Finish:
After it has been buffed into the skin and allowed to settle, it has a demi-matte finish. Seemingly blurs lines too, great for drier/maturer skin.
Texture: Slightly thicker texture than other foundations but buffs seamlessly and gives even skintone and texture; hid my freckles and a beauty spot.
Longevity: Due to the demi-matte finish, this foundation lasts fairly long; I don't generally wear foundation all day so I can't comment but for occasions I think this foundation would last me pretty long, especially if I powdered my oily areas.
Key Ingredients/Pointers:
  • Coconut Water naturally replenishes moistures levels
  • Alpine Rose brightens the skin’s appearance and promotes elasticity
  • Hyaluronic Acid promotes a smoother, more youthful appearance
Price:At £27-29 it's fairly pricey; but if you however if you're looking for a foundation that has some great ingredients to keep your skin hydrated and younger looking, this foundation is the one for you!

FrootiFactor:Though I'm not usually a fan of fuller coverage foundations for myself, I have to say I love this foundation; the feel, the ingredients the packaging and the finish (as shown below at the end of this post). I give it a 4.5 only because of the tone difference with and without flash:

Available to buy at the Too Faced website as well as Debenhams.

I created a quick peachy themed look with the Born This Way foundation and Love Flush blush below, also wearing Crosswires lipstick by MAC and Hudabeauty lashes in Giselle:
without flash
with flash
Again, as you can see, the picture taken without flash shows the foundation to be more pinky toned, however when flash is used, it looks significantly less pink and more yellow which is more suited to my tone (looking at my hand/arm for comparison).
Love Flush

When I saw the new Too Faced Love Flushes, they first reminded me of my Polly Pocket toys I had as a little girl which I absolutely adored playing with, being the girly girl I was. So when I saw these cutesy blushes that claimed 16 hours wear, I was itching to add it to my collection of blushes of course.
without flash
with flash

Packaging: I do love the Polly Pocket-esque packaging and love that it has a mirror in the lid too.
Shade: "I Will Always Love You"is a subtle peachy coral shade with golden microshimmer.
Pigmentation:Fairly good colour pay off.
Texture: Soft and smooth powder.
Longevity: I didn't notice any big difference in longevity to normal powder blushes, however the golden microshimmer did leave behind a nice subtle sparkle when I was taking my makeup off.
Price:At £18 it's around the same price as a MAC blush but with cuter packaging of course!

FrootiFactor:
I'd give this blush a 3.5 out of 5:

The Too Faced Love Flushes can be bought from the Too Faced website.

Have you tried the new Born This Way foundation or Love Flush blush? What foundations would you personally recommend?

Sunday Swatches: Urban Decay Naked Smoky

Following my last Smoky makeup look post, it's only fitting to follow up with the review and swatches of the new Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette!

As a previous Urbanette (someone who applied makeup for Urban Decay on a counter), you could say I have ample experience with the brand and am still a hardcore UD fan as many of my friends, family and readers will know.
I've loved seeing the brand grow from strength to strength, you can read my Urban Story and Naked History for some background info on my experiences!

I've had the pleasure of reviewing and creating makeup looks for all three previous Naked Palettes on this very blog, and came up with my own guide to which Naked Palette is for your skintone here.

However, this Naked Smoky palette is something slightly different; I have to say I was a huge fan of the Smoked palette and still dip into it now and then, but now the Naked Smoky palette is on the market with 12 shades of matte, satin and sparkle, it may well be the palette I reach for more when I need a quick smoky look.

The Naked Smoky palette consists of warm bronzes, cool bluey greys and matte neutral browns too.
It comes with a double ended brush with one end great for blending (or smoking out) and the other end for smudging.
Here's the palette swatched below without and with flash:

without flash
with flash
Packaging:The packaging for the Naked Smoky palette is hard semi transparent plastic as opposed to the previous metal and cardboard packaging. The corners are square as opposed to round and the shadow pans sit in a transparent base. It closes with a magnetic seal and has a full size mirror.

Colour & Pigmentation: The shadows are pigmented as usual; I found the satin/sparkly finished shadows had the same buttery texture as usual with Urban Decay, however the matter shadows seemed much more drier to touch.
I did also find that some shades in my palette were less pigmented than others and had to be swiped more than once; namely Radar, Password and Combust.
Nine of the shades are completely new with three exclusives from previous Vice Palettes (Black Market, Armor and Radar).
Despite the drier texture of the mattes, I found that using with the primer potion (as I always do) helped the shadows stick with no issues.

Longevity: As always, the UD shadows last very long, even without primer; I found that the darker ones (Black Market, Dagger, Smolder) can even leave the slightest stain which can only help with longevity.

Price: Priced at £38, each shadow works out to be £3.17 each which is significantly cheaper than Urban Decay's usual full size eyeshadow, but with the added benefit of being a cool and compact palette including a good quality double ended brush.. Despite the prices of the palettes going up, it still makes for great value for money compared to more premium brands that offer less pigmentation for the price.

FrootiFactor:I love the packaging and shades available in this palette. I do believe these shades would suit all skintones from fair to very deep compared to the Naked 3 which I would recommend for fairer skins mostly. I give this palette a 4.5 out of 5 simply because some shades seem a little less pigmented than I'm used to, but overall still an amazing palette:

The Naked Smoky Palette is available to buy from Debenhams, House Of Fraser and now John Lewis too.

How often do you wear smoky looks? Will you be adding this palette to your collection?

Tuesday Takeover: Truly Madly Beauty

Today I've got a mani post from the lovely Aysha of Truly Madly Beauty who is my go to blogger to ask mani related questions; she suggested CND Airdry to me last for fast drying nails that don't smudge and I haven't looked back since!

Hope you enjoy her post below:

Two Tone Geometric Nails

Thank you Safiyah for asking me back to do a wee Takeover Tuesday post on her lovely blog for you! I've been a long term fan of this lady with her seriously impressive makeup skills & I'm looking forward to the day when she finally teaches me how to contour right! I came to the conclusion that I may have been doing it wrong all this time after my mother inquired if I'd been in a fist fight on account of the "bruising" on my face...hmm. O_o *cough*

Anyways, I digressed majorly there didn't I? If you're familiar with my blog at all you'll know that nail art is my passion. Today I have for you lovelies a quick & simple two tone geometric design using two polishes from Loreal's Color Riche range.

The shades I've used here are 242 Pink Pop, a yummy bright pink creme & 241 Cloud Wow, a pretty pale blue lavender creme. Both polishes were great to work with, smooth formula & quick drying & I love the brush that comes with these. Definitely helps with easy application. They're also contained in such cute dinky bottle packaging that they would be perfect to pop in the bag or take on holiday. This geometric design could not be more straightforward to create so here's a breakdown of the steps for you.

Grabbing your polish, apply one coat to the whole nail, I decided to alternate both shades.

Then using the alternate polish shade, apply a coat at a diagonal across just half of the nail. I use the brush that comes with the polish & apply free hand but you can use a thinner brush & fill in the rest if you find that easier!
Don't worry if your line is a tad wonky as the next step is to apply a thin white line across the diagonal where the two colours meet. I use the Models Own nail art pen in White as it has a thin striper brush end which is perfect for this & makes applying thin straight lines very easy.
Next grabbing a dotting tool, or if you don't have one then a simple bobby pin will suffice! Remember dolls nail art tools are NOT compulsory to create fun nail art! Use whatever is at your disposal! Dip the dotting tool/pin into some white polish & apply a row of dots along the edge of the white line.
The inner magpie in me loves adding a touch of sparkle to the nails so to finish the design I quickly added a dot of Models Own Southern Lights which is a disco of lilac tinted holographic glitter, super satisfying sparkles!

Finally after a bit of clean up if you have any polish spillages on the skin areas with a bit of acetone & a brush, apply a nice thick coat of topcoat to seal your design, I use CND Air Dry, quite possibly the best topcoat on the PLANET in my opinion (& I think Safiyah will agree with me here? ;) ) & that's it!
Thanks for reading & I hope you liked the two tone geometric design lovelies! Feel free to pop over and say hello! You can come find me over at Truly Madly Beauty! Instagram: Aysh_xox Twitter: @Aysh_tmb

Thank you again Safiyah for having me! <3

Tuesday Takeover: The Blushing Giraffe

Hi my lovelies,

Sorry for the lack of posts of late, I've been uber busy now that my little one is on the move walking but I will be back with posts very soon!

In the mean time I have a great post from one of my favourite bloggers: Iqra of The Blushing Giraffe.

Hello Frootibeauty readers! Can I just say what an honour it is to be guest blogging back on the lovely (and super talented) Safiyah’s blog. She kindly sent me a few Kiko goodies to review for you all so lets get started.
I believe two of these are from the Rebel Romantic collection which is limited edition this autumn - the eyeshadow palette in the pretty purple box and the eyeliner in that stunning green box. The cute multicoloured square box houses one of Kiko’s colour shock long lasting eyeshadows and the moment I opened the surprise package I was so excited to try them all out! Unfortunately the postman came mid-way through me doing my makeup for a wedding so I couldn’t delve in and experiment..but a week later I am ready to give you my thoughts.

The first thing that I tried is the Kiko Milano Reckless Spirit Eyeshadow Palette in 03 Wonderful Mauve(£12.90) which is a cool toned quad of matte shadows. I normally gravitate towards warm eyeshadow colours so it was really refreshing to play with the taupe's and greys. When I first swatched the eyeshadows I was a little disappointed at the colour payoff, however used over a base on the lids I found it showed up better and didn’t take as much building up as I had anticipated. I love the nudey-beige shade, it’s great base for everyday and both the grey/taupe colours work well to add definition in the crease area. The black shade is surprisingly the most pigmented with one swipe, so it’s easy to add some depth and smokiness to your look if you want too! The packaging is very sturdy with a pretty design on the front and size wise, is a little smaller than a powder compact with a full sized mirror on the inside - making it very travel friendly. It also comes with a mini duo doe foot applicator. All in all a decent eyeshadow palette, if a little pricey, but it’s worth checking out if you’re a neutrals kind of girl.

Moving on to the Kiko Milano Colour Shock long lasting eyeshadow in 103 Alternative Brown. I assume this is very similar to their cream crush lasting colour eyeshadows only with 1g more product. The cute little pot with frosted glass houses a cream eyeshadow formula which looks remarkably similar to the Charlotte Tilbury ones! It is a moose/whipped type of formula which feels very light on the eyes and blends well. You can pack this on for an intense colour pay-off or you can use a light wash of it all over the eye, depending on what look you’re going for. My favourite way to use this is actually like a gel liner, though the texture isn’t similar to one at all, I find with a small brush it is easy to line the lids and it makes a nice change from an intense black wing. In fact it gives a sort of smoky look to the eyes. The shade looks like a gunmetal grey in the pot but transfers as a cross between black and brown with very subtle speck of shimmer. After using this I’m tempted to pick up some of their matte versions and some lighter ones too. I think it’s great value for money as a little goes a really long way.

Last but certainly not least we have the Kiko Colour Definition Eyeliner and Kajal in 05 Splendid Emerald. Green eyeliner is not a colour reach for on a regular basis, but after using this pencil I’m going to push myself out of my comfort zone because WOW does it make brown eyes pop! Very pigmented, thin nib, twistable so no need for sharpeners and it even has a tool which you can use to make the end pointy again. I really want to get my hands on the beige shade as I think it’ll be perfect for the waterliner and overall the quality of this pencil really impressed me. I found it easy to line my top lid as well as my waterline and my lowerlash line. The waterline did take a few swipes to build colour but that’s usually expected.

Swatches of everything are below, please note the liner is a lot more of an emerald green than the photo suggests!

Just heads up, Kiko currently have an offer of a BB Lip Glaze 07 Poppy Red for £2.90 instead of £6.90 (code BEAUTY1) till the 4th of October! So if you fancy anything in this post, there’s your excuse!

The Swatch Gallery Project

Hi guys!

Apologies I've been MIA, but it has been for good reason as you will see below.

So I was approached by fellow blogger Annie (of Epiphanniea) with her idea of swatching products on different skintones as a sort of point-of-call/encyclopaedia for anyone looking to buy a specific product (for example, a lipstick).
Of course at first the thought overwhelmed me and I had my reservations, but because this is something I personally would be interested and something I've not yet seen done (other than within own brands like Illamasqua), I was totally sold and knew I wanted to help out.

To be fair it's a pretty big project but so far we're a few shoots in and it seems to be coming together which is pretty amazing!

So what is The Swatch Gallery?
As the name suggests, the general idea is that all the swatches change to reflect your skintone. At the moment the gallery has 8 shades of skintone – you simply ‘Find Your Swatch’ by clicking on the person who reflects your skintone most.
It's still in its early stages and I posted this pic on my Instagram for feedback to which a lot of you pointed out there needs to be another shade or two between 5 and 6 (and as an NC30-35 I agree!)

Once you've picked your shade, you'll be directed to another page with filter suggestions for products you're looking for and of course the swatch pictures as below:

Hopefully as time goes on, Annie can swatch more products on more tones; so far we have worked with products from MAC, Too Faced, L'Oreal Paris and Makeup Revolution, so the range swatched varies from budget beauty to more premium brands.

Do check out Annie's post explaining the gallery and why she started it here.
You can access The Swatch Gallery directly here.

I do think it's pretty epic and am glad to be a part of this project, what are your thoughts and suggestions?

Sunday Swatches: Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks

Hello my beauts!

After my last post regarding The Swatch Gallery Project, I thought I'd follow up with a swatch post of my own with the relatively new Urban Decay Matte Revolution lipsticks.

If you remember my post with the non-matte Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks, you'll know I rated them with a FrootiFactor of 5 because they reminded me of the YSL Rouge Volupte lipsticks and were insanely pigmented.

I have to say these Matte Revolution lipsticks are just as impressive as the original Revolution lipsticks. I'll be showing the lipsticks swatches and comparing them to the original Revolution lipsticks in this post.

Swatches:
top: without flash, bottom: with flash
Here's a collage of all four lippies (taken on my iPhone, so excuse the quality!):

Original vs Matte Revolution:

Packaging: the outer packaging for the Matte Revolution lipsticks is black metal effect compared to the gunmetal grey metal effect with the originals.
Colour & Pigmentation: Matte Revolution lipsticks are Insanely pigmented as with the original Revolution lipsticks. I only had to swipe once in the swatches above, straight from the fresh lipsticks too (means the lipsticks didn't need warming up).
Texture: I was quite surprised to find these lippies really creamy and non drying whatsoever. I wouldn't quite say these are as matte as say a MAC matte finish lipstick, but more a Satin finish.
Longevity: I'd say these last about the same as their original counterparts; due to the non drying texture, I found these didn't stain the lips or stick to them as a drying matte finish would.
Price:These are priced the same as the original Revolution lipsticks (£15.50).

FrootiFactor: I have to say I do love these lippies but was kind of hoping for a more drier texture, even though I quite liked that they were comfortable on the lips. Blackmail seemed a bit patchier than the others. Menace had the driest texture and felt it would last longer. Aside from this, I'd still give the lippies a 4.5 out of 5 because of the super high pigmentation <3

Urban Decay Matte Revolution lipsticks are available to buy at Debenhams, House Of Fraser, and John Lewis.

Do you own any Urban Decay lipsticks?
Which of these shades would you wear?

Hey guys!

Today I have another swatch post for you guys but by my lovely friend and fellow blogger Naheeda (LoveNaheeda) who has kindly written a little post for me on the NYX Soft Lip Pencils.

Be sure to follow her on Instagram, Twitter and YouTube!

Hello everyone!! What a pleasure it is to guest post on Safiyah's blog - not only is she a very good friend of mine but she also introduced me to the wonderful world of makeup. I owe my low bank balance to you frooti so thank you for that!

Now, if you don't already know, NYX has recently launched on Boots.com for all of us UK fans and boy am I happy!
NYX is my favourite makeup brand ever so now I can shop my fave lippie and increase my Boots points at the same time. Just brilliant.

One of my favourite NYX products has to be their Soft Lip Pencils. They glide on as smooth as butter and stay on all day (although a little touch up is needed after foodies!) and highly pigmented. I would go as far as to say they are the best lip liners ever, better than MAC. If you haven't tried them yet have a look at my swatches below as I have no doubt that one or more of the shades will tickle your fancy. And at only £5.50 it's certainly worth a try. I am not much of a writer (sorry peeps) so I will let the pictures do the talking!

Plush Red is my favourite shade - it's so bold and makes me feel really confident, what's yours?

Love, Naheeda x

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade - Chocolate
Urban Decay Vice 4 Palette: Bones (inner corner & browbone), Bitter (slight above crease),Delete (crease),Flame(eyelid),Framed(blend above crease), Beat Down & 1985 & Deadbeat (lower lashline)

Sunday Swatches: Urban Decay Vice 4 Palette

So this weeks Sunday Swatches post follows up from the Vice 4 Palette look on Friday(here).
The last Vice Palette I have is the Vice 2 (missed out on the 3 last year!) but this palette looked promising and I love that it comes with a pouch so when I was kindly sent the palette to review I knew I had to dig in and create a look with the burnt orange shade "Bitter".

Packaging:The packaging for the Vice 4 palette differs from the previous palettes as it features a shattered, metallic oily effect and closes with a magnetic seal which a full size mirror is enclosed in.

Colour & Pigmentation: On the whole I felt the shadows are more drier and less buttery slightly than usual; I found the sparkly shadows (Deadbeat and Crowbar) needed to be swiped more than once, however the shimmery and matte shadows seemed less drier.
Despite the drier texture of the mattes, I found that using with the primer potion (as I always do) helped the shadows stick with no issues.

Price: Priced at £43, each shadow works out to be £2.15 each which is significantly cheaper than Urban Decay's usual full size eyeshadow, but with the added benefit of being in a compact palette including a good quality double ended brush.. Despite the prices of the palettes going up, it still makes for great value for money compared to more premium brands that offer less variety for the price.

FrootiFactor: I feel this palette is more cool toned than the previous Vice Palette, so this palette may not appeal to warmer complexions but I do love using Bitter as a transition/crease colour!
I also would like to see more of the usual buttery soft shades in the Vice Palettes, so I give this palette a rating of 3.5 out of 5;

What do you think of this years Vice Palette? What shades stand out for you?

The Vice 4 Palette is available to buy from John Lewis, House Of Fraser and Debenhams.

Sunday Swatches: Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Palette

Hello my lovelies!

Today's Sunday Swatches post features the highly anticipated Gwen Stefani palette which has been on my wishlist since I first laid eyes on it..
Not only is the packaging of this palette a beaut, it's also luxe looking, much like the style icon herself and the colours are just a perfect selection of neutrals with a pop of jewel colours as you'll see below.
12 of the shadows are completely new, and 3 are repeats. So basically the whole palette is practically new for a hardcore UD fan.

No Doubt you'll be lusting after this palette too once I've finished this review too(see what I did there?!), so read on for more info and swatches.
Swatches

Packaging:Can we just take a minute to appreciate the lush outer appearance of this palette? I noticed it's very in tune with Gwen's L.A.M.B perfume with the solid gold and black theme (just missing the turquoise). The cute little "Magic's in the Makeup" in the corner of the full size mirror refers to the No Doubt song too, so for all you No Doubt fans will love this.

Colour & Pigmentation: The palette is mostly on par with the usual UD quality; highly pigmented and buttery in texture. Baby, Anaheim and Blackout felt like they needed more than one swipe compared to the others/were drier. Pop is the sparkliest shadow and is therefore a bit granier.
1987 and Danger are my faaave out of all of them and Zone (and Anaheim) are great transition colours for blending.

Price: Priced at £40, each shadow works out to be around £2.67 each which is pretty awesome for a palette with the usual UD quality, packaging and a pretty awesome neutral shade range. Oh and of course if you're a huge No Doubt/Gwen/celebrity collaborations fan obvs.

FrootiFactor: I'm going to give this palette a straight up 5 because it's lived up to my expectations and more.. now what look to create?! Feel free to leave suggestions below although I know 1987 and Danger need to be used asap!

So there you have it.. It's already sold out once on the Urban Decay website, but is back in stock and also available at Debenhams, House Of Fraser and John Lewis; itislimited edition, so "whatchu waiting forrrrrr?!"
